Install CartTuck in about 10 minutes

Before you start

• A Squarespace 7.1 site on the Core plan or higher. CartTuck’s uploader is added with Code Injection, which Squarespace includes from Core upwards. On Basic, see the Basic plan note below.
• Admin access to the site, so you can approve the connection and edit Code Injection and product forms.
• At least one product you want to collect files for, such as a custom print, a photo gift or a commission.

Step 1: Sign in with Squarespace

Go to carttuck-api.dylanharcourt1.workers.dev and choose Connect with Squarespace. Squarespace asks you to pick the site and approve access. CartTuck asks only to read your orders and products, which it needs to match files to orders and to list your products in the dashboard. There’s no separate password: your Squarespace login is your CartTuck login.

Once you approve, you land in the CartTuck dashboard. New stores start with a free trial of every Pro feature, with no card needed.

Step 2: Paste the script into site-wide Footer code injection

Your dashboard’s install checklist shows a script tag that includes your store’s key. It looks like this (copy yours from the dashboard, not from this page):

1. In Squarespace, open Code Injection. Recent 7.1 dashboards list it under Pages → Custom code; older ones under Settings → Advanced or Developer Tools. Searching “code injection” in the Squarespace dashboard finds it either way.
2. Paste the script tag into the Footer box. Leave anything already there in place.
3. Click Save.

Why site-wide Footer, not the product page? Squarespace 7.1 swaps pages without a full reload when shoppers click around your site. Code injected on a single page only runs when that page is loaded directly, so a shopper who arrives on your home page and clicks through to a product would never get the uploader. Footer code injection runs on every page, and the script is loaded with defer so it never holds up your page from displaying.

Step 3: Add a “CartTuck file” field to the product’s Add to Cart form

CartTuck doesn’t add fields to Squarespace. Instead, it looks for one Text field in the product’s own Add to Cart form (the form Squarespace calls a product form) and turns it into an uploader. Squarespace then saves the upload’s code with the order, just like any other form answer.

1. In Squarespace, open the product you want to collect files for and add a form to it, or edit the form it already has.
2. Add a Text field and set its label to exactly CartTuck file.
3. Turn on Required if every order of this product needs a file. Leave it off to make the upload optional.
4. Save the form and the product. Repeat for each product that takes files.

Prefer a friendlier label such as “Upload your photo”? Change the field label in your CartTuck product settings first, then use the same wording in Squarespace. The two labels must match.

In the CartTuck dashboard you can then set rules per product: whether it’s required, how many files, which file types, the largest file you’ll accept and, on Pro and Studio, a print size and minimum DPI.

Step 4: Confirm the green “widget seen” check

1. Open one of your product pages on your live site, ideally in a private window. The Squarespace editor doesn’t always run injected code, so test outside it.
2. Click Add to Cart. Where your “CartTuck file” text box would be, you should see the uploader.
3. Back in the CartTuck dashboard, the install checklist shows a green widget seen on your site check once the script has loaded on a live page.

To see the whole flow, place a test order with a file attached. The file usually appears on the order in your dashboard within a minute.

After you install

• Share your post-checkout upload page (Maker, Pro and Studio plans). Your store has a page at carttuck.com/u/your-store where customers can add a file after ordering with their order number and email. Link it from your order confirmation email or product description.
• Turn on order alerts (Pro and Studio) to get an email or Slack message for each order that includes files.
• Tell shoppers what you need in the product description: file type, minimum size, and whether you’ll check it before printing.

Troubleshooting

The text field shows instead of the uploader

This is almost always a label mismatch. The label in Squarespace must match the label in your CartTuck product settings exactly (the default is CartTuck file).

• Check spelling, capital letters and extra spaces in both places.
• Make sure uploads are switched on for that product in the CartTuck dashboard.
• Check the script is in the site-wide Footer box, not in a single page’s code injection or a code block.
• Add ?carttuck_debug=1 to the product page’s address and open your browser’s developer console. CartTuck logs every step it takes. Send us that output if you’re stuck.

My site is on Squarespace’s Basic plan

Squarespace’s Basic plan doesn’t include Code Injection, so the uploader can’t load on your product pages. You have two options:

• Upgrade your Squarespace plan to Core (or higher) and follow the steps above.
• Use the post-checkout upload page (Maker, Pro and Studio plans). It doesn’t need Code Injection: customers upload at carttuck.com/u/your-store after ordering, and the file attaches to their order.

Some shoppers don’t see the uploader

A few ad blockers and privacy extensions block scripts from other domains. Those shoppers see the plain text box instead of the uploader. To make sure they can still send a file, link your post-checkout upload page in the product description, and watch for orders marked as awaiting a file in your dashboard. On Pro and Studio you can send those customers a re-upload request in one click.

A shopper’s file was rejected

The uploader shows the reason. The usual ones are a file type the product doesn’t allow, or a file above your plan’s size limit (Free up to 25 MB, Maker up to 100 MB, Pro and Studio up to 500 MB). If the message says uploads are paused, your store has reached its monthly upload limit; upgrading resumes uploads straight away.

An order shows no file

Files normally appear within a minute of the order. If Squarespace’s notification is delayed, a backup check every 15 minutes picks the order up. If the upload was optional and the shopper skipped it, the order is marked as awaiting a file; ask them to use your upload page, or send a re-upload request.

My site uses a Squarespace 7.0 template

CartTuck currently supports Squarespace 7.1 only. 7.0 support is on the roadmap.
